How to Check for Head Lice
|
| • |
Seat your child under a bright, preferably natural, light. Lice will be hard to find because they are tiny and fast-moving.
|
| • |
Examine your child's head from different angles as newly-laid eggs are nearly transparent.
|
| • |
Part your child's hair in different areas, particularly around the ears and nape of the neck, examining the scalp closely.
|
| • |
Look for small white-to-yellow specks the size of poppy seeds, and for adult
lice moving quickly away from the light. To distinguish between lice eggs and
dandruff, try to dislodge them with a fine-toothed comb. If they are resistant
to removal, they are probably eggs. |
